UCTC would like to congratulate Dr. Md Akther Uddin, senior lecturer and program coordinator of School of Business, for successfully presenting his paper “Reemergence of Islamic Monetary Economics: A Review of Theory and Practice” in an international workshop”Islamic Monetary Economics and Institutions: Theory and Practice 2017 workshop” held in 1st -2nd November 2017 in Male, Maldives. Participants and researchers from more than fifteen countries attended this prestigious annual gathering. The conference was inaugurated by H.E. the Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture of the Republic of Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Shainee. In the first session, in his paper, Dr. Akther discussed the theoretical and empirical review on Islamic Monetary Economics. He persuasively argued in favor of equity-based monetary instruments for sustainable and equitable growth in Muslim countries where inflation and unemployment have been persistently on the higher side. On top of that, he showed clear disintegration of financial economy from the real economy due to excessive leverage in developing economies. Moreover, bottom-up approach has been recommended to develop true Islamic values in Islamic man compare to economic man where moral hazard is a real concern. He proposed a behavioral model where honesty, truthfulness, and trustworthiness are the integral part of an Islamic man in a wholistic Islamic economic model. After the successful completion of the event, senior economist of Islamic Development Bank Dr. Turkhan handed over certificates to the presenters. Following that Maldives Centre for Islamic Finance organized a boat trip and guided city tour in a reclaimed Island- Hulhumale. This was the fourth paper on Islamic economics and finance presented at international conferences in the last one and half years. Dr. Akther returned to Bangladesh on the 4th of November and started his office from the 6th of November 2017.
