Mechanical engineering covers a diverse range of engineering fields with five major areas of study: thermodynamics, solid mechanics and dynamics, fluid mechanics, designand manufacturing.Examples of more specialized areas of work are combustion engines, acoustics, aerodynamics, biomechanical engineering, environmental engineering, energy conversion systems, and material science including fracture and fatigue, robotics, and vehicle design. The B.Sc in ME program initially exposes students to a wide range of topics covering the fundamentals. Advanced courses and electives provide more specialized knowledge and emphasize applications. Many courses include experimental lab sections to give students hands-on experience with current engineering and measurement equipment. Throughout the program, several courses are devoted to design in mechanical engineering. Students apply engineering principles to challenging design projects. Working in groups and individually, students develop communication skills through oral and written presentations.

Message from the program coordinator
Department of Mechanical Engineering in University of Creative Technology, Chittagong (UCTC) has a strong reputation in Bangladesh for its undergraduate program. In recent years, our department has developed its resources for making a competitive and superb undergraduate program. We are strengthening our position as a major department of excellence where scientific research is conducted along with undergraduate academic activities in accordance with technological advances.
The undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering at UCTC is recognized for its solid background which has instilled a strong work ethic, as well as a ‘can-do attitude’ among its graduates. Not only the current students but also the abiding appreciation of outgoing and former students play an important role in our mechanical engineering department. We are maintaining a continually updated and smart undergraduate mechanical engineering program to better serve today’s students. Consequently, the department is shaping highly trained mechanical engineers for placement in industries nationally and internationally as well as MSc, PhD candidates at competitive universities throughout the world.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering continues to enhance its boundaries by offering cutting-edge technology related under-graduate courses. The department has skilled faculty members who have graduate degrees from abroad, especially from North America and Asia to share their latest theoretical and practical knowledge with our undergraduate students. That’s how our students are going to put their foot print in emerging technologies such as material science, alternative forms of energy production, storage and distribution, and interdisciplinary topics. To fulfil laboratory works, several laboratories are already developed such as Advance computation and simulation lab, machine shop, strength of mechanics lab, Fluid mechanics lab, theory of machine lab and others.
I am excited to see what the future holds for our department and invite you to join us on our incredible journey. If you are a prospective undergraduate, you'll find that the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of Creative Technology, Chittagong is a great place.
